Interested local residents continued to meet throughout the summer of 2007 giving over 1,000 hours of their time to working with the consultant team on a range of topics: Movement and Transport; the Wider Impact; the Environment; Employment; Young People; Sport and Leisure; Site Layout; Heritage and Parking; Management Structures. Background to the project In late 2006 Linden Homes and Thomas Homes were appointed as preferred developers for the Fair Mile Hospital by English Partnerships, the National Regeneration Agency and owners of the site. The brief for the site was set out in English Partnership’s key aims for the site (see first box below) but was also informed by a Development Brief produced by South Oxfordshire District Council and the Cholsey Parish Plan (see second box below).
In the lead up to the Community Planning Weekend, meetings were held with key stakeholders including Cholsey Parish Council, Fair Mile Sports and Social Club and South Oxfordshire District Council. Workshops were also held with pupils from Cholsey School, pupils from Wallingford School and people from Cholsey Day Centre.
To ensure the widest possible attendance at the Community Planning Weekend flyers were distributed to all households in the area and advertisements were placed in the local newspapers. |
